7 Self-Care Tips To Start Today

1/24/2020

We all need a self-care moment, but how do we make time? It’s especially hard when we work full time, have demanding bosses, children, and a partner, and feel like we have to do it all. Let’s be honest, with hustle culture there is also a drive to always be doing. So how can we stop right now at this very minute, and start making changes towards self-care? We have a few suggestions for you that have worked for us.

Today we are sharing a few quick tips, including some from the founder of The Pink Event, Tamika. Let’s do these, together. Are you ready?
  1. Listen to our bodies in terms of rest and nourishment.  i.e. Sleep when you are tired and eat when you are hungry. Let’s dive deeper into this. Instead of staying on electronics in bed until late at night, maybe we resolve to put away electronics one hour before bed. We’ve heard this can provide a more restful sleep too. Also, do you often forget or become too busy to eat? Make sure you make time to eat a healthy meal. Forgetting can cause low blood sugar, low energy, weakness, and headaches- among other things! It’s not a pleasant feeling to feel bad during the day due to a missed meal.
  2. Indulge in a couple of your favorite things at least once a week – For Tamika it is a glass of wine, chocolate, Starbucks, and/or ice cream. For you maybe it’s something else. A fun activity is thinking about what you would like to have if you could have anything.
  3. Sit still and do nothing for 30 mins. to an hour each day, just be.  You can meditate, or just stare at the wall, but if you can clear your head for a small amount of time, you’ll notice an increase in ideas and creativity over time! Remember no tv, no reading, no phone, no social media, nothing at all.
  4. Make time to get together with a friend(s) on a regular basis.  i.e. coffee date, lunch hangout, movies, party, tv time, etc. Reach out to your relationships, especially those people who you haven’t seen in a while. Or reach out to someone you’d like to become friends with and ask them to coffee!
  5. Find a hobby – One of Tamika’s favorites is crocheting. Ideally, your hobby will be something you do for fun and not money. Sometimes it’s a good thing to turn off the constant “hustle”.
  6. Limit social media time. Set those boundaries everyone! Constant scrolling leads to the comparison game which leads to other things that just bring us down. Setting boundaries and intentions for being online can go a long way.
  7. Spa days – Massages and pedicures are Tamika’s favorites! Save up for a quarterly spa day or more frequently if you’d like, just don’t forget to take time for you.
Pro tip: Combine your spa day with The Pink Event and visit our Pamper Lounge! Check our social media for what we will be offering at @thepinkevent .
